Can anyone please definitively answer the following question, I have seen conflicting reports on this. I am probably going to purchase a new Macbook, however I would like to know if there is a speed advantage with these new intel laptops for using matching sized memory pairs. I have heard that there was speed increases with the G4/G5 but with the switch to Intel its not an issue anymore. Can anyone definitely answer this for me?

Yes you HAVE to match the ram with equal sized chips.

If you just have one in there the performance stinks. i am not sure what happens if you put 2 mismatched pairs but I don't think it would work.

Check out the macmini review at barefeats.com

You can put memory in unmatched, but the performance suffers with heavy 3D tasks. For everyday usage, it seems to have a minimal effect.
