I convinced my parents to swithc over to a mac this year (january) when the intel imac's came out and i love osx and the whole mac feel. No problems with it and i've been quite happy with everything so far. For college i know that i definetely want a mac and i really want a laptop so i have been patiently awaiting the macbook for the past several months. I was really enthused about the specs and it not seeming like "weak crippled" machine even with the integrated graphics. They look cool and could do everything i want, but this thermal grease temperature problem is really making me nervous. I know i don't have enough time to wait for rev. B and under no circumstances do i wish to open it up. How much of a problem is this? How widespread is it? I only read negatives of people with bad temperatures are there any out there with a normal temp.? And is this a big enough problem to warrent not purchasing a macbook? Will the temp. eventually fry stuff inside? Are the macbook problems as bad as the macbook pros?

Everyone cries about heat. It makes me laugh. I bought a revision A 12" PowerBook and everyone cried about the heat. I used that thing constantly for 3 1/2 years. It got warm, but not bad enough to cook my junk.

I bought a MB Wednesday and it's the same story. The thing is warm, but no more than my old PB and that thing lasted forever. I'm giving it to my sister next week and I'm sure she'll use it another 3-4 years.

Everyone always cries about heat in electronic stuff. I bought a DirecTV with TiVo when it first came out. There were threads about it being too hot everyday. That thing worked fine for me for over 4 years. More recently everyone is crying about the Xbox 360 being too hot. I see no problems with mine.

People just want to have something to b*tch about.

Go buy it now....if you can wait till XMAS, there will surely be a speed bump - but that is life in the mac/PC world!

My 1.5 GHz 12" powerbook gets hot, and has never gave me any problems, my macbook is on its way, and for comparison I checked the temps of my current machine, and my PB might be hotter than normal but the processor temperature ranges from 55C-69C which is readily emitted from the bottom case, but I deal with it w/o any thought. Also, I am a lot less worried after it was pointed out in intel documentation that max is 100C.

Would not touch a MacBook Pro for other reasons myself. The form factor and fit / finish of the BlacBook seem to be more appealing to me than a wider heavier.

As to kinda bashing the MBP. I'm glad I waited. The MB feels like a truly new Mac. The MBP just seemed like the same old aluminum PB. That isn't bad, but I'm loving the MB.
