My PB is getting a little long in the tooth so I opted for the macbook.
I wasn't really even considering the macbook once theissue with the glssy screen arose but after taking one for a test drive at the apple store I was sold.
The screen, yes its glossy but it was more then usable in the store and now at home. in the daytime with sunlight gleaming through the windows to night time and typing next to a lamp.
Performance, a tad slower in some things, but that's attributed to teh 512meg of memory that will get upgraded shortly enough.
Hard drive speed and space, the 60 gig is fine, and the speed is no faster or slower then my PB.
Overall I'm very happy with machine and its quite useful.

Grr, so jealous. I'm in the process of saving up for mine. Has yours been whine- and moo-free?
Glad you're happy with your purchase!

Congrats.
Yeah, 512 MB is unacceptable. I tried it in the store, and it was paging out like mad after loading in a few apps. Rosetta and the the stolen RAM for the gfx really makes a noticeable difference. 512 MB in Tiger on a G4 Mac isn't great either, but it's a heluvalot better than 512 MB in Tiger on an Intel Mac.
I just hope my RAM gets here about the same time my MacBook arrives, cuz if I have to deal with using just 512 MB RAM for extended time, that will be very, very annoying.
P.S. I really dislike the glossiness of the screen, but I'll have to learn to deal with it.

I love my new BlacBook! No whine, no moo and about as warm as my old 12" PB.
But I am dying for more RAM! I have a gig on order with OWC, and working with 512 Mbs is killing me. I know from my dual core iMac that RAM makes an enormous difference, and the MacBook's at the Apple Store all had a gig and were killer fast.
I wish I had the dough for 2 Gigs, but I know the extra 512Mbs is really gonna help.

too bad apple fills up both your slots with 2 256 chips instead of one 512 chip.

You need that RAM - it transforms the MacBook from "fast" to "whooooooaaaaaah!!!!"
With it, most apps launch in 1 or 2 bounces max.

When I first saw that the MacBooks were including 512MB of RAM, I thought that Apple was being somewhat reasonable with the base amount of memory for once. But the memory taken for the integrated graphics combined with the extra RAM that Rosetta uses really makes 512MB a stretch. It's kind of amazing that we've come to the point where consumers are routinely going to be getting 2GB of RAM, though.

And next year or so, consumers will be getting (needing) 4GB RAM, when the prices are reasonable that is. I know I would.
But congratulations with your new MB! So, where are the pics

Thanks, you know I've only used this for one night and its a great laptop.
My PB is a nice laptop but I figured now is the best time to maximize the amount I could get for it and the wife gave me the go ahead to pick one up. You don't hesitate when that opportunity presents itself.
I agree that the memory is way too small, now I need to decide whether to buy from crucial or OWC for the gig memory kit. I can save around 60 bucks going with OWC but I've always bought my memory at crucial and they've been great (knocks on wood, hoping I didn't jinx myself).
Any thoughts and opinions regarding OWC vs. crucial?
Edit:
Crucial's 2 gig kit is outrageous at 360, OWC's selling their's at 225. Of course the thought goes through my mind that crucial uses top notch parts and maybe OWC doesn't so they can offer it for much cheaper.

I had always used Crucial or MemoryX until relatively recently, my MBP has a GB stick of memory from OWC -- no problems whatsoever and the prices/guarantee are excellent.
Enjoy your MacBook! I offered to replace my husband's PB12 with one but he turned me down!
