Hi All
I am typing on my new black MacBook It is gorgeous. However, I am finding that the "I" key sticks

Anyway, my question is, how do you reset the admin password? I don't remember setting it on this laptop but it's asking me for one. To reset, it says i need to use the install CD. However, when I try to do the install from it, again it asks me for the password. I DO NOT KNOW IT! Help please?

You don't want to reinstall, but rather boot off of the CD and on the menu select reset admin password. I believe its under the tools menu (I could be wrong on the menu name, I'm going from memory.)

Maflynn, thanks for your prompt response. However, it's been so long since I've booted from CD, do you mind telling me how to do it again?

Restart with the disc in the drive and hold down the 'C' key until the Apple logo appears.

hi all

i was able reset the admin password from the install cd. however i think my keychain passwords are going nuts now because the system keeps asking me for passwords when i didn't have to enter them before on the old powerbook, i.e. when i start iChat or safari, it asks me for the keychain password. how do i turn this feature off? i am the only one using this computer so i don't need it to be password protected all the time. also, how do i set it so i don't have to login before getting to the desktop? sorry for all the questions. i'm trying to transition over to the macbook as quick as possible.

thank you!
Michelle

Does it keep asking for the same passwords over and over? Or just the first time you use something? As for setting auto-login, you'll want to go into the Accounts system preference and click on "login options." You may need to click the lock and enter your password before you can do this.

Yes it keeps asking for the "keychain" password all the time, which I don't know. Additionally, I've used iChat several times and aside from asking me to enter my iChat password, which I set to "remember" (and it doesn't), it then asks for the "keychain" password as well... ugh.

I've never really had to do this before, so I'm kind of guessing, but you can try using the Keychain Access program located in your Utilities folder (in the Applications folder). It has an option to reset your keychain. That might do the trick.
