Apple Store RAM upgrade: MacBook more expensive then iMac?

In the U.S. Apple Store, upgrading the 17" iMac from the stock 512 MB to 2 GB costs $300. Doing the same for the white MacBook is $500. Why the difference? I thought they both use the same RAM.

They do apple is just retarded. Do yourself a favor and order ram elsewhere it's wayyyyyy cheaper and on the macbook it's crazy easy to install yourself.

It's just sad to throw away these 2 x 256 MB sticks.

And I also wonder *why* Apple makes them so expensive. Harddisk upgrades seem quite reasonable compared to it.
