Got a blackie. It's my first mac. I've been following the manual on proper setup and battery calibration. Is it just a matter of waiting until it's charged and then letting it rest for a few hours?

Reading everything here, I was worried about getting one, but everything seems to be working great. But I don't know macs.

Oh, how do I get an DVD to go full screen?

Is there anything else I should check? Screen looks great. No noises or whines. Gets very warm on the bottom. Man, I'm worried about my desk!

Congrats on your first mac! In the DVD Player app, go to the Video menu and choose Enter Full Screen (or press CMD-0; the command key is the one with the apple on it). Of course, using Front Row is a much cooler way to watch dvds. Just use the remote!

Photo booth is awesome! Great software. I can't wait to get into Garage band. I'm so glad I finally switched.

How much space does ilife take up? This is supposed to be an 80 Gig HD, but it says I have 58 Gig left.

Well, first of all, a hard drive that is advertised as 80 GB is actually only around 74.5 GB. I apologize if you already knew this, but many people don't. It stems from the fact that hard drive manufacturers use the literal definition of gigabyte, meaning 1 GB = 1 billion bytes, whereas computer systems, due to their binary origins, have co-opted the term "giga" to refer instead to 1,073,741,824 bytes (2^30).

Anyway, with the OS and iLife installed, I think 58 GB sounds about right. GarageBand in particular takes up a lot of space--there are I think almost 2 GB of instrument loops and demo songs included with the app.

I have GarageBand and all of the JamPacks - which totals roughly 35GB. Kind of a bummer but when I figure I have over 10,000 loops and over 2,000 instruments, its pretty cool.

My BlacBook is supposed to be delivered today, and I can't wait until I see how it handles Garageband.

Garageband, iMovie, iWork, and iDVD all take up lots of space with all there themes and samples. All the printer drivers, different languages and also programs like the trial version of Office. Also there is a nifty program out there called Trim The Fat, it will remove the non intel portion of any program, this alone can save you a few gigs from the iLife apps. That's why many Mac users will do a fresh install of OS X as soon as they get a new machine, you can sellect what you want installed then.

What/Where are the JamPacks? Since this is mostly for music and my work (music) that sounds really cool. Thanks!

Star-Fire: When I get a new Mac, I always do an Erase and Install, because I like to maximize my HDD space, and I can always install programs I didn't beforehand later.
