Hi all,
Why is it that the specs of the BlackBook say it has an 80gb HD but when I physically looked at the info of the HD, it says i only have like ~50gb free. What's taking up all that space?
Powerbook G4 17" 1.67Ghz 2GB 120GB SD DL. Mmm. Sexy.

There's some garbage on there. A lot of people recommend formatting the hard drive and starting from scratch. I don't know how to do that, though... I'd maybe check in under the OSX forum, since this isn't really a Macbook question.

Also, 80 gb is really like 75 gb because computers and hard drive manufacturers count bytes differently.

(How do you reformat a Mac hard drive and reinstall the OS? This is such a simple thing for me on Windows, but I have no idea how to do it on a Mac... I feel like a newborn baby here!)

Even simpler on Mac, just insert your install disc, restart the mac whilst holding 'C', and follow the easy instructions to do an 'erase and install' to start again by reformatting and reinstalling the OS

I'm curious too about how much I'll free up. My blackie shows almost 57 Gig available. What "garbage" is on there? So far everything on it is really cool. Is there just sample tunes or something?

Also you can save up to a little over 1GB by deleting the languages you don't want using DeLocalizer.

is garageband installed?
if u aren't gonna use it, look for it's libraries...a couple gigs right there (of sounds).

apps u won't ever use...delete.

go to versiontracker; there are apps like delocalizer that can delete foreign language files...

lots to clear off instead of having to re-install.

one thing: perhaps keep files in trash for a week, make sure u don't delete anything u need!
