Giday everyone,
I have a bit of a dilemma on my hands, I currently have a PC at home, and it does the job, however I’m completing a Bachelor in Graphic Design, and at uni we use Macs, so it’s not as if I have to get a Mac, but I just really really want one!. Currently the Powermacs are out of my budget, considering I would have to buy an external monitor, and I’ve been drawn towards the idea of having a laptop, because from time to time I stay at a friends house, and I find that I don’t get any homework done there because she doesn’t have a computer and also taking the laptop to uni would be helpful, getting work done on the train and whatnot. Anyway, back to it, I have to decide that model of the Macbook Pro to get, the Macbook is not an option because of the integrated graphics.

I have been offered a brand new boxed 1.8GHZ model (it was brought 2 weeks ago) for AU $2,500.00 however the new 2.0GHZ models with my education discount can be purchased for AU $2,815.00 and the 2.16GHZ model with the 256V Ram is AU $3,520.00.

So I’m thinking that the best option would be to buy the 1.8GHZ for $2,500.00 and then slam an extra 2GIG of ram in there. I’m guessing that the 2GIG of extra ram is going to be a lot more useful to me rather than the 1.2GHZ upgrade for $315.00.

Lastly, as studying Graphic Design, would the 128V Ram be able to keep me happy? I don’t need ‘lightning fast’ reactions, because I’m going to be using a CS2 which is non native anyway, but I was wondering is there a huge difference in the two graphics card in relation to how fast it will process image manipulations and all that fun stuff?

So I’m 90% decided on buying the 1.8GHZ and getting more ram, is this the smartest option? Please keep in mind, I’m a student, so spending this much money on a computer is a pretty hard decision, therefore even saving a couple of hundred dollars can make or break a deal for me!

Thanks for any advice, I plan to make the purchase within the next two days.
