Hi everyone, I updated my MBP saturday night. the next morning I turned it on and worked fine. Then some programs were crashing and so I restarted the mac and it did not boot anymore. Anyone knows why? Here is a small video. It just flicks between the apple logo and a circle with a line across it. I have a 15" 2.0 Ghz, 1GB Ram, 256 video, 100 HD.

Boot from the install disc holding C with the disc inside and run the First Aid stuff from Disk Utilities instead of going on with the installation, you can do that from the "Utilities" menu once the installation wizard has started.

I did do that, just says "Invaild name" I repaired it, fixed the permissions too and restarted, nothing. I still see the HD, says 98 GB, free 58 GB. So that means my stuff is still there but won't boot.

Try booting whilst holding T . If you manage to get into firewire target disk mode, hook your MBP up to another computer via firewire, and transfer all your files onto the other computer for backup. Then make your way down to an Apple store, or, if you do not live near one, call Apple
iMac Core Duo 1.83 Ghz | 1.25GB RAM | 160HD, MacBook Core Duo 1.83 Ghz | 13.3" | 60HD | 1.0GB RAM

I booted by using holding T for firewire and works. I am transfering files to my powerbook. There was a file in my home folder name "Mach Kernal" or Mech, something like that. Now that file is not there. Is that file important?

Yeah that file was not supposed to be there at all, it is supposed to be at the root level of the hard drive, invisible.
