Hi All,
just wondering... has anyone ever used ALL the ports (including the card slot) on their machine at the same time? what happens? I suspect nothing happens. so this may be totally boring !
I ask for no particular reason... just curious and for sh*ts and giggles and possibly to see who actually has a use for all of them at once.
I dont actually have a FW800 device or a card to put in the card bay so i cant do it myself.
Do you think there could even be a user who would have all ports filled at once? name some scenarios...
heres my go:
1: Tv card
2: headset with in/out ( so uses the two holes)
3: modem for fax maxhine
4: usb1 = memory stick
5: usb2 = mouse
6: ethernet for LAN connection
7: DVI mirror to a big display (digital tv?)
8: svideo to extend display to another screen(will this conflict with 7?)
9: FW 400 to dv video cam.
10: FW 800 to hard drive? (what are some FW800 devices?)
11: security cable.
12: power cable
thats all of them i think.
i hope this can be interesting for even a fleeting moment.
cheers,
robM

Please, get real - what a totally pointless thread, ports are there to be used, and if someone uses them all at once, then good for them!

Yes, the majoirty of other threads are useful and informative. You will notice how other people seem to agree with me as no one has come into this thread and said 'Oh yes, I use all my ports, I do!'

At least on my desktop I can easily use all the ports, and then some. Every PCI slot filled, 12 usb devices, 3 firewire devices, speakers, headphones. They are there to be used. Even on my ibook (not very many ports) I can use all the ports just to charge ipods.

I often use every port on my MBP (with the exception of the expresscard slot since I don't have any cards at the moment). Both USB ports, external monitor port, firewire, ethernet and power (and bluetooth, though not really a "port"). I often dock my MBP at home to my large monitor and external keyboard, mouse, various peripherals and a gigabit-ethernet file server. Works great.
Edit: oh, and I've had headphones connected, too.

My MBP is my desktop replacement, I guess you could call it (since everyone says it's NOT a laptop). I do have almost every slot filled except for the Expresscard slot. I guess I'll do a run through of what's being used and what for:
Firewire --> 400gb External HD
USB 1 --> Mouse (I don't like BT ones, however a BT Keyboard is paired)
USB 2 --> 4-Port USB Hub: HP PSC1350xi Printer, Digital Cam's AV Port, Griffin Powermate, iPod
DVI Port --> Dell 2005FPW
Headphones --> JBL Creatures
And then it's usually always plugged into the charger.
Could the full use of all ports be at all harmful in the longrun? I dont have APP right now but I guess I could invest in it in case any of the ports die?
