I have a theory: If your macbook moos, then its also too hot to use on your lap.
I think the temperatures everyone is comparing using CoreDuoTemp are irrelevant (unless you're getting something crazy >100C). What really matters is how hot the case gets.
The mooing issue is caused by the fans going on and off repeated within a matter of seconds- at close to 70C there is no reason whatsoever the fans should be doing this, they should be running.
Perhaps this is an issue with the fans being used- some achieve proper RPMs at low voltage levels whereas others flicker back and forth, causing mooing and heat issues. I propose we gather some data here and see if we can confirm/deny this theory and gain any more insights.
Please post the following:
Model: (black 2.0, white 2.0, white 1.8)
Serial: XX6YYZ
Factory: XX
Week: YY
????: Z (i'm assuming this is assemby line or day of week or something)
Moo: (yes, no)
Whine: (yes, no)
Hottest part: (bottom top left, bottom center)
How hot: temperature if you can measure it (again, not the cpu temperature, but the case), or something somewhat objective - how long you can touch the surface until it becomes uncomfortable?
I'll start us off...
