I have a theory: If your macbook moos, then its also too hot to use on your lap.

I think the temperatures everyone is comparing using CoreDuoTemp are irrelevant (unless you're getting something crazy >100C). What really matters is how hot the case gets.

The mooing issue is caused by the fans going on and off repeated within a matter of seconds- at close to 70C there is no reason whatsoever the fans should be doing this, they should be running.

Perhaps this is an issue with the fans being used- some achieve proper RPMs at low voltage levels whereas others flicker back and forth, causing mooing and heat issues. I propose we gather some data here and see if we can confirm/deny this theory and gain any more insights.

Please post the following:

Model: (black 2.0, white 2.0, white 1.8)
Serial: XX6YYZ
Factory: XX
Week: YY
????: Z (i'm assuming this is assemby line or day of week or something)
Moo: (yes, no)
Whine: (yes, no)
Hottest part: (bottom top left, bottom center)
How hot: temperature if you can measure it (again, not the cpu temperature, but the case), or something somewhat objective - how long you can touch the surface until it becomes uncomfortable?

I'll start us off...

Also, remember to report issues to Apple as stated on http://discussions.apple.com/thread....hreadID=502546. Apple doesn't read these discussion forums, nor the ones over at apple.com- use the form at http://www.apple.com/feedback/powerbook.html to report macbook issues!

Well, I can only imagine the amount of heat produced by the MB would be uncomfortable to friggin' insane if placed on your lap for too long.

I guess I'll be happy since I have my iLap that I use with my 12" PB. It'll keep my laptop away from the family jewels.

I'm guessing it would extend over the edge of the 12" iLap by a couple of inches but nothing too annoying. Maybe an iLap specifically sized for the MB will be coming out. Otherwise, I'm guessing the 15" iLap would be adequate...
