My dad is going to be giving me his 14" iBook 933Mhz due to the fact that I would get more use out of it then he does. Problem is he smokes. Therefore it smells like cigarettes/smoke/nicotine. While he was in town last week I got a chance to clean it up but it was still a little stained and dirty when he took it. I was reading about using the magic eraser to get off stubborn stains so I will have to use that method once I get it. Anyone have any idea how I can get rid of the cigarette smell from it?

I let a friend borrow my Mac Mini for a few months. His grandma is a heavy smoker.

The only thing that almost completely got the cigarette smell out of it was a complete disassembly and cleaning of each part. That nasty sh*t gets in there very deep. After that you could still smell cigarette nastiness from the rear vent, but running it for a few weeks cleared that out.

Start smoking. I'm sure after a couple of weeks, you won't think the lappy smells at all.

Eventually it will change the plastics to yellow.

Hence my custom "Golden iMac Tar Edition".

I'm sure my MacBook will follow suit soon enough. I almost thought it would be worth the money to get the black one to not deal with Apple's yellow (white) plastic consumer line equipment.

Well, its definitely not a tar edition yet, but it has some stains in spots. Mainly the wrist rest area and a couple of the corners of the ibook are somewhat yellowed. For the most part though its still pretty white from what I could see. I plan on keeping it out in the air once I get it so the smoke smell goes away. That and using the magic eraser on the whole book. Probably going to have to get a new laptop bag too since his smells bad.

Time will get the smell out. Give it two months and it should be fine.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

rubbing alcohol or windex works really well. Just put on the paper towel - not on the mac directly. The rest of the smell will just take time.

I tried window cleaner and it worked somewhat. Rubbing alcohol did get some of the stain off. Im hoping the magic eraser will finish the job though. What could I use on the outside smooth finish?
