I'm prepping my G3 iBook in order to sell it to a friend. It's in pretty good condition for a 3-year-old machine, with one exception: the latch does not always stay shut. If I close the laptop, it does go to sleep, and if it's closed and left on a table, it usually stays closed. But if I put it in a bag, it will typically open while in the bag (and drain the battery if it opens and shuts enough times!)
I know the latch is moving and the magnet seems to be working -- if I close the lid, I can see the latch swing into place. But usually, the latch doesn't catch properly, so it doesn't stay shut, and even when the latch does seem to catch, I can usually open the laptop without pressing the release button.
Is this something I can fix? I've taken laptops apart before, and I may have to take this one apart anyway to put a different hard drive in it. Is there a way for me to get to the tab the latch locks into and maybe bend it back into place? Or would I need to get a new case part?
Thanks!
