Just for who ever is interested, my old 20 inch cinema disply driven at full resolution is running smooth as melted butter on my macbook w/ 2 gig of ram.

Totally unscientific, but I have multiple videos playing (hi-def halo 3 trailer in VLC), typing on the forum, minimizing multiple apps, launching apps, this thing doesn't seem to stop. Even with the integrated graphics, it seems to handle it all in stride...

This is sorta rambling, but I'm a happy guy.

I don't think I could be any more satisfed with a laptop if I tried...

How's Exposé when you have tons of WIndows open? Does the System Profile still say 64 MB for the GPU when you do that?

Expose is very responsive, up to about 15 windows, then it starts slowing down a little. The machine is under heay load though copying 2 16 gig directories to a single hard drive and my striped raid setup in the USB enclosure I just got from new egg...It's very surprising to me how smooth everything is.

Until I throw a high def video at it, then it gets choppy. If I have the video running in the background and then want to see all the windows spread out, the chop is there. But I don't normally beat the machine up intentionally. I'm trying to make it hiccup now..

System profile still states 64 meg dedicated to graphics.

My BlackBook (2GB RAM) running my 23" ACD at full res is the same. Very, very fast and responsive until you throw 20+ windows at it. Expose looks great, as well.

It'll be exciting if some sort of mod or hack comes out to allow the integrated graphics to use more memory within OS X. I believe I've read that XP on Intel Macs running the integrated chip are using up to 224MB.

With 2 gb of ram it runs great on my 24inch dell display. Not so well when it had 512, and I typically close the MacBook and run a single display. But not upset at all. A big change from the MacBook that choked on my 20inch.

My BlackBook drives the 20" ACD absolutely fine. No stuttering, perfectly smooth Exposé at ~15 windows. System Profiler still says 64MB.

I tried the Exposé test using Safari on my MacBook and my iMac G5, with the machines connected via VGA to an external 1360x768 screen.

MacBook 2.0: Lags at 15 windows
iMac G5 2.0: Lags at 31 windows

Not surprising, since the iMac has 128 MB video RAM.

Anyone have any luck with powering on a MacBook via the display? I have a 23" Cinema that powers on my PowerBook G4 with no issue, but it won't power on my decked out MacBook...
