Hi there, l bought a powerbook 667mhz logic board off ebay VGA for some fun. Well l have a pb 400mhz l am doing up here too. Anyway, l put the logic board on my desk, plugged in some speakers to the microphone port, plugged in a power adapter, plugged in a monitor to its vga out and put in 128mb ram module from my pb 400mhz. Because it is supposed to use Pc133mhz l put in some pc100 l have from the 400mhz. Proceeded to start it up, all it does is chime once and thats it.

Now looking on the web that means that no ram is installed. But it is!!! And l've tried 3 different pieces each time it doesn't work. So whats going on, why isn't it realizing there is ram installed. Is it because l haven't connected it to a pram battery etc, but l didn't think that would cause a beep, help anyone??

If a computer requires PC133 RAM, you can't use PC100 and expect that it will work. Furthermore, if you aren't putting a heat sink on the CPU and the graphics chip, you'll fry them almost immediately.

I've always heard, can't say how true, PC133 will work in a PC100, but not the other way around. Were all the sticks you tried PC100?

zac4mac is right. You can certainly use faster memory on a slower bus. The memory will just run at the slower speed. But you can't use slower memory on a faster bus. It just won't work.
