I've pretty much given up on my wireless connection with my 12" powerpc powerbook as every thing I've attempted flat out fails. I've checked out Apples forums & done a hardware test and everything seems to check out. I've made sure the antenna to the card is connected correctly.Everytime I try to join my Airport Extreme Network (my mini is ethernet connected to an Arris Cable Router (isp provided) it will ask for my wep password & it will sometimes connect...I'll have bars all the way across like it's a good connection. I'll check out Airport admin though & it won't even see the base station. Then at some point soon after that it will crash.

My main question is this:
Can just your settings for your network on the base station cause a computer trying to access it to crash?

As long as I'm not trying to get online the computer functions fine, also it does fine if I connect it directly with the ethernet cord. But what's the point of a laptop if you can't be mobile with it?
Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated.

Define "crash." Are you talking about a hard freeze or a particular application freezing? I'd recommend pulling out and reinserting the Airport card, making sure that it is inserted until you feel an inaudible "click." The end of the card should be flush with the aluminum just above it. Then reattach the antenna.

Hi,
Thanks for your response. It was actually hard freezes. My card & connection to the card checked out fine.I did some more research & I'm pretty sure it's a combination of my airport extreme base station having failing/low transmission & the 10.4.6 update. The WEP passwords are continually rejected. It also seems 10.4.6 plays best with the G routers. The forums seem to be full of people right now with older airport systems that used to work fine but are failing miserably with the update. I may have to get a new router. Thanks again.

A hard freeze on your machine has nothing to do with the router you connect to over Airport. A new router may fix your network connection problems, but it won't fix your freezes.
