My iBook takes a very long time to wake up from sleep, probably 3 to 5 minutes.

When you first open it up, you get the black screen with the Spinning Pizza cursor.

You can hear the hard disk working like crazy at this point.

Sometimes, after a few minutes, the iBook apparently forgets that it was waking up and goes BACK TO SLEEP.

Other times, the Spinning Pizza cursor continues on the black screen for what seems like several minutes.

Eventually, the User ID/Password login screen shows up to unlock the screen. I type in the userID and password to unlock the screen, and then I get the regular desktop, but it's slower than heck and the hard disk is furiously doing SOMETHING, I DON'T KNOW WHAT.

After several more minutes, the hard disk finally settles down and the iBook seems to work normally.

This iBook is running system 10.3, and has about 5GB of free space on the hard disk.

any suggestions?
