I've seen several people post what week their MBPs were built, and I was wondering how you know this?

I'd assume theres something on the serial number?

Check your serial number (About this Mac, then click twice on OS X version number). I think you'll see something in part of the number like 6xx, where 6 represents 2006 and xx represents the work week in which the machine was built. I'm sure someone else can confirm this.

That's exactly how it works.

My MBP is W8612****** which means it was manufactured in Shanghai/China (W8) in 2006 (6), week 12 (12). The last six digits/characters encode the hardware type and the production number.

You can check your serial with this little web tool:
