so i want to transfer some videos that are on my windows xp pc to my mac book. i can get my mac book into target disk mode and i can get xp to recognize the mac book as a "removeable drive" however...when i click on it to explore it i get asked to first insert a disk into the drive. clearly something is not right as i should atleast be able to browse my mac book since i shows up under my computer on xp. i also can not drag files to it...i get asked again to first insert a disk.

any help here? i did not want to make the file transfer over my network as its like 4 gigs of videos and that would take forever.

thanks in advance!

Oh yeh. Thing is, I think its the drivers that get screwed up. When I plug my mac in, XP shows many different drivers/devices for the one mac book. For example, under control panel's device manager the mac book pro shows up as an actual disk drive, as a general storage device, and as generic firewire device. And one of these devices (it varies) will show an error stating that "the device is already installed".

I'm lost on this one.

Windows Xp does not offer native support for the Mac filesystem on the drive. You need to use macdrive to be able to read Apple formatted disks. www.macdrive.com

They do offer a 7 day trial.
15" Macbook Pro 1.83 2 GB RAM
Blackbook 13.3 Powerhouse 2 GB RAM
MacMini Dual Core 2 GB RAM (Sadly running Windows Most of the time)
Numerouse Workstations running windows and Linux. Sorry don't have the specs, I don't pay much attention to them anymore. :)

Exactly right.

And the reason you're seeing XP recognize it as a removable drive is that beginning around 2003, Target Disk Mode gained the ability to convert to FireWire not only the internal hard disk, but the optical drive as well.
