I have a Macbook 1.83. I was looking for a way to reduce the processors speed when in battery mode. On my old Powerbook you could do that, but that option is not in the energy saver preferences on the Macbook. I notice in the pull down menu for the battery it gives you options for "Better Performance" etc but that seems to only effect screen brightness and timing for sleep and the screen.

I also noticed that the processor seems to change speeds dynamically (i am see that through coretempduo). Is there any way to control the speed? My main goal is to improve battery life when not doing anything processor intensive.

Also, is there a way to run on one processor?

It controls it on it automatically, which will probably be more efficient that you setting the speed every so often.

Yes, you can disable one core, however contrary to popular belief, this actually reduces battery life as the one core is having to work much harder than the 2 cores
