Hi folks,

I'm selling my 800 Mhz G4 iBook to my sister in law to subsidize my purchase of a tasty new Blackbook. I'd like to do a clean swipe of the system to eliminate a problem -- namely, the "shut off" menu option no longer works. The folders, dock and menu bar disappear, but the background lingers and the machine never shuts off. Wiping the hard drive and reinstalling Tiger may fix this, but I'd also like to wipe the firmware for extra measure. (I used the spanning firmware hack to get the iBook to work with two monitors. And yes, I deactivated it but the shutoff problem stayed.) How would I do that? Is there a way to restore firmware?

Thanks much for any help.

Reset the PRAM : press apple-option-P-R keys simultaneously during startup. This will disable the spanning hack.

Then reinstall the system with the restore CDs to have a clean Mac OS X system which should fix the shutdown issue.
