I just purchased a 1ghz Early 2004 G4 iBook from a retailer on eBay. The description says the model includes a CDRW drive (not a combo or Superdrive). However- all the specs I've read say a CDRW was not even a BTO option.

I probably jumped the gun early and should have researched this before clicking the bid button! I've tried to contact the seller to determine which optical drive the unit has, but haven't been able to receive a solid answer.

Does anyone know if ANY of these iBooks would be configured with only a CDRW?

I'm guessing the seller meant combo drive.

You can use www.everymac.com to see what various models were released with what options. I don't think the iBook G4 ever had a CDRW only option, but earlier iBooks did. It's possible that the drive died and was replaced with only a CDRW, or (more likely) the seller just didn't know what he was talking about.

Well the seller is a used Mac dealer, but I'm hoping this is a mistake. I've checked the specs on Apple/support and the iBook 1ghz was never configured with CDRW drives. I was thinking that possibly education accounts could have ordered units with that option, but I guess I'll have to wait for the iBook to arrive before I really know...

Does it really matter? The combo drives can read/write cds and read dvd roms.

It matters if it's a CDRW only and not a combo drive.

Ah, I thought the problem was he was getting a combo drive instead of a CDRW.
