How do you restart the macbook when you encounter a kernel panic on start-up. I currently have one and the screen ask that I either press the restart button or hold down the power button for a few seconds.

The Restart button, I assume, is the one from the Apple pull down menu which isn't available. When I hold down the power button, it would shut down and does not restart. When I press the power button again, I'm back with the kernel panic, how do I re-start this machine.

Thanks.

Well, they're not going to be asking you to select something from a menu during a kernel panic, since by definition the computer has locked up. They're referring to the physical restart button on your computer. However, I don't know if the MacBook has one or not. IIRC you can press "command + control + power button" to restart the computer as well.

That said, if you're getting a kernel panic at startup, something is seriously wrong. You may want to look at the possibility that you have bad RAM.

Put your Tiger install DVD in the drive and restart while holding down the 'C' key.

Run Disk Utility from the Installer menu and repair the startup volume.
