Hey guys I just returned my MacBook and decided that I wanted a MBP I have an offer for one at $1480 its 3 months old but still eligible for AppleCare. Its the basic run of the mill MBP 512mb of ram. Is this a good deal at this price? I know the Merom powered MBP's are around the corner but I'm dying without a OS X powered machine. Do you think I could get $1400 for this machine once merom drops? So basically I rent the MBP for 3 months for $80. Anyone have a take? I know these revisions have problems but could it be any worse then the MacBook I just returned?

I'd say go for it.

The macbook pros have already depreciated Alot in price since the macbooks came out, 600 less then what this machine sold for a little over a month ago. While I won't guarantuee you can get 1400 for it in a couple months, the odds are pretty good you it will hang around that pricepoint for a while; assuming apple doesn't rip the value carpet from under you by selling a next revision macbook pro for less then 2000.


I can tell you as an owner of that exact same machine I had sick feeling in my stomach when I saw my resale value plummet when the macbooks came out. (I solved that problem by buying a macbook too.) Now I use whatever machine I feel like and don't worry about reselling either.

I'm kind of worried about how these new Intel 'books are going to hold their value. I sold my Rev C 12" PB the day before the MB's came out for $1,100. The day after the MB's came out I saw similarly equiped 12 inchers going for less then 800 with AppleCare. Right now $1480 sounds like a steal but hopefully I can get $1400 once Merom drops. If theres a case change then I know I'm really screwed. I wish I didn't have such an itchy trigger finger and could just wait till August. Dam

I'm sort of in the same boat really. I have both a MacBook 2.0 and a MacBook pro 1.83 and they are both great machines. I am selling one or the other since I don't need two but it's tough deciding which is the better value to keep. For just a few hundred difference, the Pro gives a bigger screen, better video, card slot, aluminum case and an overall more professional look. The MacBook is such a sweet machine though with it's size and I am really loving this glossy display.

Just curious what some of your opinions are. Like I said, I will be happy with either one but it would be interesting to see who would pick which one and why.

BTW, they are both listed for sale in the marketplace here in case anybody is looking for a good deal!
