Finally! Apple is working on an 'ultra-portable', the machine I've been lusting for since I changed from my Sony Vaio to a 12 " Powerbook G4. Any suggestions from this forum for Apple what to put in the machine (and what to leave out!)?

For me, what I would like to see a machine for roadwarriors, light, lots of battery life, very compact, very good screen. Something like:
- less than 1,5 kilo (3,3 pounds)
- 13" widescreen 1200 x 800 glossy screen
- portable DVD-player (hardly use it, only for installations and on travels to watch DVD)
- 7 hours worktime
- very small and light power adaptor, or even better: an integrated adapter
- possibility of using a bigger battery pack
- a docking station

Any thoughts out there?

After 18 years of MS-DOS and Windows working very happy on Mac, now on a 15" MacBook Pro 2.2 Ghz - 2Gb memory - 200 Gb HD with a 20 and 23" screen. I've been waiting for the iPhone for quite a while, let's role it out in Europe. Just one wish left for now: a light mac (2-3 pounds) with 8 hours of working time. They can do it... :-)

Apple Insider makes up their stories to get attention. Read the title of the article for example of the BS that comes out of them "Apple SEEN DELIVERING ultra-portable at Macworld"

I mean if they are so insider how come they predicted a red MacBook and that the MacBooks would have x300 graphics? A new site like iPod Hub got 95% of the specs right and AI got only the screen size right.

The article should have been about Intel and hard drive manufacturers only. Apple and the rest of the industry will naturally follow them.

This one doesn't claim to be an insider report with their own sources; it's repeating what an analyst from UBS speculated. They're not saying whether they believe it.

Still, I'm not sure why this had to be 2 different threads in 2 forums.

I would suggest that it's not nice to double-post. Everyone see his identical post here:

Mods. Close this thread.

Hullo,

Was not aware that posting double was regarded as a serious offence. What doesn't work for me is the tone of voice.

IF Apple will come up with an ultraportable it's not clear if it's going to be a MacBook or a MacBook Pro. I've noticed that the people commenting in the MacBook forum are different from the one at the MacBook Pro forum, hence I thought it made good sense to have two posts.

Maybe the solution is to restructure things into a "Laptop" forum. Untill that happens it's fine with me to close this thread.

If it was going to be ultra portable with a 13 inch screen wouldn't that make it the MacBook? Don't believe those rumors.

Links?

I did two quick searches and don't see either claim:

MB and MBP already blur product lines, doubtful Apple will further cloud things with a sub-notebook. But hey DREAM ON!
