I recently posted about my experience at the Apple Store. I found that all of the MBs and MBPs on display ran very hot. These units were likely from the early production runs. I am wondering if anyone can comment on whether the more recent builds of either laptop run cooler? Also, how much cooler is each laptop when running off battery vs. being plugged in?

they get hot weather or not it's plugged in or not, and it's just about the same temp. It really depends on what you have the MBP on, and what programs it's running. Games will make an Oven, but web browsing and using i chat is pretty tame.

As for later models, My friend got his last week it seemed to stay cool and i was amazed, and then 2 days later the thing cooks just like mine. tis isn't thomething that will be fixed in the near future maybe in the next Rev. but prob not....

My MBP is a refurb purchased a couple weeks ago. I've used it long and hard with multiple pro graphics apps running simultaneously. I have yet to hear the fan come on but it has singed my lap a few times.

I managed to sell my original MBP and replaced it with a 7200RPM BTO model which is week 21 production. The temepratures are slightly lower than my orginal W12 model- Core Duo reporting tool reported 66C on my previous while this one is 62C

Mine never gets hotter than I can rest on my bare legs unless I'm doing heavy 3D graphics or charging the battery from near-zero and using the machine at the same time.
