grey dust protection in drive stopping discs ejecting

Hi
the grey material in the drive of my ibook is stopping the discs coming out as it has ripped a bit. is it ok to remove / trim it? If so does anyone have a any tips on how to do this?

I'd exchange it. If it's seated wrong that's a bad thing, you shouldn't be trimming it to avoid discs getting stuck. That will only open up that area and expose it to dust.
