I had a really strange occurence with my MacBook today, it is a stock blackbook BTO w/ 1GB of ram.

My computer never gets shut down, and today when I came home after a short trip (1/2 hour), prior to which I had been using the machine, it was off. At first I thought it was just being difficult to wake, however, put my ear to the case, and no noise/lights. I attempted to power it on, and where the grey apple usually is, a picture of the globe showed up in greyscale, it flashed 3 times, and then stayed solid, the computer did nothing further. I tried turned it off eventually, and then when I powered it on the second time, it booted up as usual. No external devices were connected to the machine. Anyone know what happened? Never saw the globe on any of my prior mac machines... Should I be wary?

Thanks,

CH

Could be a kernel panic. Try running disc permissions and see if it fixes anything. If not, go to an Apple Store near you.

A globe, hmm, I'm really not sure but I think that could mean it was looking for a network drive to boot from. Perhaps the settings that control the startup disk are corrupted?

Probably best asking in the OS X forum. Strange it should shutdown on its own though...
