I've recently acquired a G4, 12 inch, 1ghz ibook because it was faulty and the person I got it from didn't want to use it. I now want to try and fix it. Here's the problems, When you try to start it it'll do one of two things it will either sound like the fans going at full blast and then beep and not turn on or it will go to the start up and freeze or KP. I've found that if you hold where the battery is it'll will turn on more likely than if you don't. Once you get the computer actually up and running there's no telling how long you will have to use it before it freezes or kp again. I decided to plug it in last night to charge it and when I grabbed it this morning it was extremely hot which is completely unusual. If you guys have any ideas of what could be wrong with the poor little ibook I would appreciate it.

I don't think the battery will cause a KP or to Freeze. My iBook G3 had similar problems, It would freeze once it came up, or get a KP, or won't find the startup disk. I reloaded my OS and now it works fine. But if it wasn't on while it was charging and the battery was hot, then you may want to get a new battery, it could cause a fire!.
