My dad just bought a MacBook. (Black) and it's been acting strange to the point that it just stopped working and displayed a grey screen on power-up.
I inserted the OS X install disk and was going to try re-installing.
But it can't find a harddrive to install to!
Tried Disk Utility and System Profiler, but none of them can find the HD.

Is there anything i can do to try and get it to work?
It worked just a couple of hours ago..!

The most you could do is remove the HD and then reinsert it again. That's unlikely to solve anything in a new MB, but it's worth a try if you're located far away from any Mac shop.

Sadly, it looks HD failure. You should be able to take it in and get a new one--given that the one you have can be said to be DOA (dead-on-arrival.)
