Ok, i am a starting out photographer, I use the 12 inch powerbook I had a 876Mhz one until january of this year. It had for the entire time I had it been a complete disaster, it overheated and killed the hard drive more than once. When I got the 12 inch I had asked about the larger screen, and was told that if i was gonna travel with it a lot that the 12 would be a better fit for me. So i got the 12 inch all was find and dandy until, the issues with the old one started. SO I got this new one in january and Now It's started do the quriky things that the old one did before each of it's burn ups. Like it will get so hot it is uncomfortable to set on my lap threw my JEANS. I started setting it on a milk crate with a fan blowing threw the crate. (it helps but it's only a stalling technique) it will also get very warm on my wrists, sometimes leaving red marks. I took it to the apple store today seeing the signs on the wall and know that a massive meltdown could happen any day now... THEY DID NOTHING, i drove 1hr to the place and They ran the diagonstic and just sent me on my way. saying the diagonsitic didn't sence anything. The fan never seems to be on? So i am at my wits end over this I am temped to just go buy *gasp* a PC. Seeing as I am in taking classes, and teaching some entry level classes, and trying to do some photo jobs. I can't have a laptop that wants to work when it feels like working.I need something I can trust. Any ideas on what to do now? I tried calling applecare customer service, and they are like well we gave you a knew one what eles do you want... mmm how about one that works?

Not enough info in this post to answer your question. Was there a question, by the way? What system software, what software in general are you using? How much RAM, how much empty HD space? What Apps to you keep open? Are you running software that has to run in Classic? What version of Photoshop? What's the ambient room temp where you work?

Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities Folder (Applications) and set it to "All Processes" then check to see what App is maxing out the CPU. Anything that has to run in Classic (TruBlueEnv) is a scorcher, for example.

Also, you'll find that long rambling and confusing posts just don't get answered. Ask a clear question and you'll get answers--but hey, it's your first post. So if your second post is a bunch clearer with the above details included, along with a question about suggestions on reducing heat, you'll get some help.
