I posted this question on "Peripherals" but I think the Powerbook
forum might be a better bet for getting a good answer -- so my
apologies to anyone who sees this twice.
In order to attach a new video iPod to a TiBook, I got an
ADS Tech Turbo 2.0 USB 2.0 cardbus adapter. the TiBook
is running 10.4.2 (it's a 667 Mhz, with 512 MB of RAM, for
what it's worth).
Unfortunately, the iPod is only recognized sporadically when
plugged into the USB 2.0 ports, perhaps one out of five times
(and even then, sometimes the connection goes away). The
iPod does get a signal from the TiBook regardless, as the
screen lights up and displays the "Do Not Disconnect" message,
but most of the time it is not recognized by the Finder
or iTunes.
I've tested various configurations, so I know the cable is
fine, the iPod is fine, and the TiBook is fine.
Anyone have a similar experience? Anyone have luck connecting
a video iPod through a 3rd party USB 2.0 Cardbus card?
BTW, the crashes have sometimes resulted in kernel panics.
Thanks for any advice -- either on how to get this to work or
a different card to use.

Probably won't help, but why haven't you updated to 10.4.6 or 10.4.7? And why do you only have 512 MB in there? You could probably go to a gig.

Why 512MB? It's a second machine, not one I want to put much money into.
Why 10.4.2? A generally conservative approach to updates (when things are
stable, as they have been till now).
I am curious if anyone else has experience with this card. If it turns out
that people with 10.4.2 have had problems and those with 10.4.6 have not,
I'll upgrade in a heartbeat. I'd just like to collect the facts first, if there are
facts out there to collect.

Just curious why you're not using a firewire cable? The new iPods don't ship with a firewire cable, but they're available thru Apple. Seems like that would've cost less?

Yes, it charges over Firewire, but one cannot transfer music/video over Firewire,
only over USB -- and USB 2.0 is necessary, for all practical purposes.
