Just got a new macbook for my wife. Came from Apple with 2 sticks of 256mb RAM. I added 2 1gb Patriot sticks from Newegg. all seemed well. but now under load, not full load just opening apps, the screen flashes black and then after a few seconds it comes back on. It happens often enough to be annoying.

Here's what I did:

1. Replaced with apple shipped ram.- Doesn't seem to occur, so I figured bad ram...
2. Ran memtest on both stick individually. 3 passes on each stick
3. Reset PMU as advised by AppleCare

Still could be bad ram but...

1. I pulled the two 1gb APPLE RAM sticks from my 17" MBP, still occured.
2. Tried the Patriot 1gb sticks in my MPB, all is fine.

So I don't think it is bad ram?

Any helpers out there? Apple wants to blame 3rd party RAM, but their ram that shipped with my MBP exhibit's the problem too...

One stick of apple ram 1gb and another stick of apple ram 256mb seem to work fine.

my screen flashes occasionally. wat is happening is the connection from the magsafe connector is a big dodgy (i think). so the power comes, and the it stops, which results in it running on battery power for a milli second, and my display settings for battery power is not as bright.

Mine goes absolutely black like the machine is powered off, for a few seconds, then comes back on.

did u do the 10.4.7 update recently? Apple re-released the update due to some OpenGL (graphics) package not being included. Just a wild guess here though.

Mine does a sort of flash thing at start up and when waking from sleep. When waking the sceen flashes momentarily before coming back.
