I reapplied thermal paste today on my macbook cpu and i remember something like putting the size of a grain of rice for regular desktop cpu's but when putting it on the macbook i saw that the cpu looked much smaller. however, now that i put my macbook back together i'm beginning to think this was too much. at idle it was about 60-62 with coreduotemp, now its about 57-58. nothing too exciting. also i'm not sure if i did something wrong but the cpu shows that it stays at 1.0 ghz now when before it would always stay at 1.5. can anyone suggest how to run my cpu to 100%

Open two terminal windows and type yes in each one of them. That should get the CPU in gear.

if you used something like arctic silver 5, you should use the computer for at least X number of hours (it should say that on the Arctic Silver webpage) for it to have full effect.
as for your CPU running at 1ghz. It could just mean that it's not being used..

Is the battery in the MB? For what ever reason, Macbooks down shift to 1.0GHz without the battery.

ok i'm totally thinking i put too much thermal grease on it now. but its still runs cooler than it was running before by a little. i know you're supposed to put a very small amount but i always went by the amount told to me for desktop cpu's. and damn i got so many screws left over from taking it out. oh well, next time i feel bored i'll open it up again and reapply even less this time.

I think the AS5 website has instructions - did you review them. From what I read, you need to apply a razor thin amount of the stuff, just enough to cover the cpu
