Macbook screen artifact...?

Hi guys, this is my first post here. I recently bought a MacBook which has generally been excellent, if a little hot. However, I recently noticed some odd things about the screen that I wondered if anyone had any experience of. Basically if I look at the screen when there is any extraneous light shining onto it, I can see these bizzare vertical lines, clustered together in patches. Hopefully the image below shows what I mean. Anyone have any advice they may be able to offer? Have I a case for a replacement, given the annoyance this is causing me? Is this normal for LCD screens? It almost looks like a sort of 'burnt in' effect...!?

You need to take this into an Apple Store to have them look at it. If it was bought at Apple within 30 days and it's not a CTO (configured to order - basically not a stock machine), you shouldn't have a problem getting it replaced if it's a real problem. Anything other than that, and you may have to just send it in for repair.

Bring it for sure, to me, it looks like something rubbed against the screen. Does it feel different in those places where the lines are?

Also, it is not an artifact per se, as I am only with familiar with the usage of the term artifact used when silly things happen when the computer is actually on (like when you everclock your video card and play a game and things get all messed up from an overheating card.

It is also not burn in per se, as only older CRTs can burn in, and that is most definitely not a CRT.

thanks for the replies folks. I bought the computer direct from apple here in the UK. This is a real pain because the computer is otherwise ok, but I can't bring myself to accept a bad screen when I spent all my money on this thing. I guess I should just phone Apple up and complain.

Ok, an update for anyone else who comes across a similar issue. I went along to my local Apple techs and they diagnosed the problem: static! Having never owned an LCD type screen before, I didn't realise that it's actually possible for these funny regions to form just by the attraction of dust. Really didn't look like that, but a quick clean and hey presto, no marks! Good news for me
