Hey, new here, joined to ask a question, I've been reading for a while. quick question...

I have a 2.16GHz MacBook Pro,

What is the battery life supposed to be when sleeping...

see, here's my problem. I had a 1.33Ghz iBook before getting this, and when I closed the lid for a normal night, it would use roughly 3% (according to the gauge.. which BTW seemed more acurate than on the new MBP)..

now that I have this, my battery life was cut from 4:30 on a normal charge with normal usage, to about an hour and a half with normal charge and normal usage.

but when I shut the lid for the same amount of time (a normal night) when I open it back up, it has used about 25% of it's battery life (or more)

now am I doing something wrong? or is this a stupid design by Apple?

I have noticed that at multiple random times... (sometimes half an hour after I put it to sleep, sometimes 6-7 hours) the harddrive and DVD drive will spin up for about 30 seconds..

I have no idea what it is doing, but it just starts making a lot of noise.

is this normal? if it is, that's kinda stupid... but I can live with it.

thanks!

It should not be making any noise and it should not be using any more battery power while wleeping than an ibook since it should only be powering its ram. I have a feeling you have some peripheral that is responsible. What usb devices are connected to your PB while it is sleeping? Also check the system prefs -> energy saver -> schedule and make sure it's not set to wake up.

Nothing but the magsafe is plugged in... and it's not set to wake up...

It's kind of odd... I don't have any programs running that I know of...

The optical drive noise problem is likely attributed to bluetooth. If you have any bluetooth devices: go to System Prefs --> Bluetooth --> Uncheck box that allows bluetooth devices to wake this computer

thanks for the tip!

I looked there and that box is unchecked... I'll keep an eye on it and see if it is still happening.
