Hey ladies and gents. I am a lurker on the forums and rarely post any of my observations within the mac community. I have not failthfully switched completely to a mac because most of my software runs in the ranges of thousands and are crucial for my video needs. Alas, I am stuck in the pc world until they release the heavily rumored Mac Pros at WWDC in August. Maybe I can get a great machine.

I am a college student and at UC Irvine and one day I started to get the notion of purchasing a mac. Everytime I would walk by computerstore I would become hypnotized by the aesthetic beauty of the mac. I dove in last year and started doing research and joining multiple forums. I am not that technologically savvy when it comes to these machines, but I knew enough of it. I looked at the specs and compared them to other laptops. You could not really compare them because of the difference in processors and such. All that I knew was that if you wanted something inexpensive and crying you went with a windows based laptop. If a person wanted a sleek and dependable laptop you went with a mac. My price range was either a dell or a mac,, I went with the mac.

It was a struggle but I decided to get the 12 inch ibook without the superdrive. I have had wonderful experiences with it. I would take it to class all the time and take notes. It only has a 30 gig hd, but I had a 20 gig ipod that did the job. I would go to a friend's house and it will pick up amazing reception. OS X Tiger was wonderful, I haven't been a victim of any spyware or viruses yet (knock on wood).

After a year, most of my friends heckle me because I have a mac and they have a windows machine. They often criticized me because of the lack of software and other commodities. I learned that there was much software out there form ost of your basic needs. I don't think that you need 40 types of DVD player, when Apple gives you on that works. In my eyes, the developer community has taken care of me with programs such as Open Office, VLC Media player, Mac the Ripper, Adium, Audacity, and the list goes on and on. I think the biggest reward is how people complain that their laptop lost their information because of Windows inability to succefully perform a stanby operation. I've gotten used to getting wireless within seconds in my apt and on-campus. My roommate has to configure his laptop all the time.

This sucker has been with me through the thick and thin from: all-nighters, playing music at parties, taking notes in class, studying my notes from a trip from Berkeley to Irvine the day before my midterm, going on-line in class, or as a companion when wanting to listen to your music. As an aspiring amateur film maker, I can practice using an old version of final cut or using an old version of photoshop. It does want i want it to do, can I ask for more?

It makes me productive and makes people jealous, my friends want to borrow my laptop but they get frustrated with not abling to handle very well. My friend who needed it to study for a couple of days had trouble with it beecause she was useed to windows. I taught her some basic techniques in 10 mins and presto she had it down. People are so used to having to fiddle with XP. In college if all of you remember or are living it, college is about having lots of time todo what you want to do. Does it really seem fair that you have to spend hours of trouble shooting or figuring out why your computer locked you out or why you have the blue screen of death?

I myself would rather have something that will turn on when I need it and play music, watch videos, do something creative, and have a powerful OS. People might deem as my ibook being kind of slow, but then again, when you have such a pwoerful laptop that constantly crashes on you.. I say touche.

Now I work at the computerstore and sell apple products to people. it is fun because most of the people that work there are mac aficionados and we rarely support the Dell aspect. You have to custom order it and we really can't help a person out. Now we advise people on both that and the IBM which I think is a good laptop. However, I think that Macbook is the perfect answer to many college students and faculty who want power, portability and the ability to dual-boot. I would want to have a machine with these capabilities because sometimes it is crucial to run certain software for certain classes.

All of you might be , . it's okay because I think I wrote about 60 posts today.. Haha

oof. consider editing your posts to split it up into paragraphs. it looks too cluttered. i didn't get past the first 2 sentences. something about not seeing information concerning ibooks or something.
