my Tibook won't boot, it stays on the spinning disc screen forever...

won't boot into safe mode
tried single user mode by holding down Command-S, screen switched to black with white words but it stopped half way on the screen and hangs. can't type anything. only thing i could do was to force shut down by pressing command-shift-power.

Have you booted off of an OS CD/DVD? Try that, insert the disk in the drive and boot up holding down the C key.

Also, if you have AppleCare you should have received a TechTool's CD. Try running that as well - you most likely do not have a hardware problem, but it never hurts to check.

Put Mac OS X CD or DVD in and boot holding down "C". Then choose Disk Utility from menu. Select your hard drive (or partition that you're booting from) on the left and click Repair Disk.

Sounds like one of two things... failing hard drive or severly corrupted directory. If it's a failing hard drive, obviously you need to replace it. If it's the directory, you need DIskWarrior.
