Hi there,

I just upgraded to the new MacBook Pro (Intel procesor) and the 20" cinema screen for working with video and photography.

After doing well for 2 weeks and right after an automatic SW upgrade (see list below), the laptop´s screen went dark and the whole system went blocking a couple of minutes after being switched on. The only way to get the machine running again was restarting it. Nothing happens when the external screen is not connected.

Does anyone know what is going on and how to fix it?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Cheers,

RTC

What does "the whole system went blocking" mean? Are you saying that every time you reboot with the monitor attached you have a problem? I guess it's not quite clear what the problem is.

I'm guessing the "whole system went blocking" means hang/freeze/etc. You have the same issue as my MBP. Connect an external display under 10.4.7 and it goes nuts after a few minutes: the internal screen goes black and eventually the external will freeze along with the whole MBP. Only a hard shutdown (5-seconds on the power key) will bring it down. I have the 23" ACD but it appears to be any DVI-connected display.

It's currently a known-issue for 10.4.7...the only workaround for me and everyone else I know with the issue was to downgrade to 10.4.6. Seems to fix it up. I have logged a bug with Apple engineering and also this has been reported on the Apple discussions quite a bit as well as the macfixit.com site.

It's worth noting that some MBPs don't have this issue but I have yet to figure out why. It may end up being a new logic board that ultimately fixes it unfortunately. My machine showed the issue every boot up under 10.4.7 and under .6 has been working great for a month or two. Smacks of software but you never know.
