Long story short: My top case plastics started yellowing after about a month of use. Both AppleCare and my local Apple Store offered to fix it under warranty. I went with my local store to get it turned around faster. Now it remains to be seen whether the replacement plastics retain their grey-white color.

Long story long: on my blog . . .

Good show, Apple.

Good show? It shouldn't have happened in the first place!

Cool. I've got to send mine in for discolouration soon, but I go on holiday in about 1 1/2 weeks time, and I don't trust Apple to have it back to me by then, so i'll wait until I get back.

Wow, I have beeen very dissatisfied with the Columbus Apple Store. Every time I take a product there I have to wait an unusually long time, the store is always packed and when I took my MacBook there for the discoloration they told me that it was my fault that it happened. When I took it there for the screen backlight going out they told me that I have to contact MacMall since that is where I bought it from.

Glad to hear you got yours taken care of there because they BLEW ME OFF more than once. Luckily after contacting Apple's tech support I was able to get a replacement product because I complained about the terrible service quality that I received.

Also, I like on your blog:
"The representative, who apparently had never heard about the discoloration issue until my call, put me on hold for a few minutes so she could speak to a specialist, and when she came back, asked me a few questions about possible other causes for the discoloration."

The exact same thing happened to me. The guy in Columbus had never heard of it before and the woman on the phone also had never heard of the discoloration.... I call shenanigans!

I don't know how the Apple Retail stores are tied into the mothership, but I know it's hella annoying when people buy their equipment online because it's ten euro cheaper there and then act like they're entitled to priority service in brick-and-mortar stores when something goes wrong.

Umm the apple stores are owned by apple............ They SHOULD provide support for their Apple products. It is not like an independent mom and pop store selling apple computers that I am asking for support from.

"Priority" service? Perhaps not.
Service? Absolutely. Buying at the Apple Store is no differen from buying from Apple.com.

Also, analogika I didn't buy my computer from a third party vendor to save ten Euro, I buy from Apple retailers to help them out. I dont like how Apple is undercutting all of the retailers out there by constraining their supplies and keeping the profit margins very slim. When I bought my Mac Mini I got it from PowerMax and actually paid more for it than had I bought it from Apple.

Anyone know if this is enough to try and get a repair:

It isn't very dark yet, but you can definitely tell that it's starting to discolor.

All glory to the hypnotoad.

Yeah I know it wont get better, I was just wondering if that was enough to even try for a repair. I think I'm gonna call and see if they'll take it, and if they do fix it I'm definitely putting a Marware protector on top once it gets back.

All glory to the hypnotoad.

joke: that's a bit worse than mine. i would go ahead and take it in.

i think i'm going to wait. i'd hate to have to part with my macbook for a few days. plus, the discoloration has seemed to stabilized for some odd reason. could be because i hardly touch the wristpads anymore out of paranoia.
