I have a 17" MBP that the apple techs on campus are telling me is fine. If I have the display and tilt the keyboard to about 30 degrees the display swings down to almost completely shut. Basically it does not stay open. The techs tell me this is normal for the 17" model. Is it? It certainly doesn't seem right to me. I can understand if I was swinging the laptop around, but just tilting it?

Yeah, they all do that. Mine does, and I've heard others mention this as well. I've grown accustomed to not sitting at angles.

My MBP 17 does the same.

Mine sits at whatever angle I set it at. I actually have to push it down to close it the last inch. It takes vvery light pressure, but it does not close on itself.
