Would a Blackbook with 2GB of ram using a 20" or 24" dell widescreen lag at all? How does the macbook perform against a MBP with 1GB of ram? Ill be running photoshop and dreamweaver doing web design. I dont have enough money for a MBP and the monitor, but I need my monitor space. Would that be a good choice?

No.

About the same except in GPU-bound benchmarks (mostly 3D games).

Why not buy an iMac?

yes you can. it has a mini-dvi output just like the macbook has. you just use a mini-DVI to DVI adapter. it has native support for extended desktop.

That's one thing that I liked about the switch to the new Intel chip - Apple's "consumer" machines all finally have dual-monitor support.

The PPC iMacs and iBooks only had video mirroring. When Apple released the Intel iMacs and MacBooks, they finally offered dual-monitor support.

If you need a portable, get the MB and the big monitor. It'll run just fine. You would likely only notice the GPU issues when you play 3D games.

If you don't need a portable, Get an iMac and a second display. Maximize the screen goodness.
