Hey everyone.
I need some advice on purchasing a MacBook.
I'm currently College student (Junior) in need of a Labtop for the upcoming semester.
I have never owned a Mac before and currently have a HP PC 2.8Ghz Pentium D Desktop.
I got interested in Apple labtops since I own a iPod and thought I should give Mac a try.
I will using the labtop mainly to use MSOffice (Word, PowerPoint), Internet surfing, some
photography work (Just as a hobby), and to watch Video/DVD. I don't plan on playing
games because I already own a Playstation. So please help me decide whether I should
buy the new MacBook or just stick to PC and buy a Dell labtop.

And also since Microsoft is releasing MS Vista soon, I was wondering how Mac will work
with MS Vista PCs in future. Using MS Office Vista or Running MS Vista on Mac with
bootcamp program and things like that.

Finally, if you do recommend MacBook, which one is the suitable models.
The 1.83Ghz or 2.00Ghz? and whether to get 1GB Ram or more HD Space.
Money is not a big issue, but I don't want to spend any more than $1300~1400
after tax and everything.

Thanks for your help.

Why? I know they said money is no object, but I don't see any advantage in them getting the 2.0 over the 1.83 for the stuff they want to do.

I say get the 1.83, and with the money you saved, get 2 gigs of RAM to future proof your lappie for Vista (you expressed interest in running it on your machine) and to generally make it as fast as possible.

If he going to be at school get a 80GB HD upgrade for sure. I have a small amount of music and I have only 35GB left.

People HAVE commented how "Mac's" (that'll be $5 please) runs with preview releases of Vista.

Which is, fine.

Microsoft's Vista Compatibility Tool also states that the MacBook is fully compatible - including the Glass Aqua-knock-off.

Haha I'm sure unless Microsoft does anything really stupid, Apple will support Vista in Boot Camp... the only place I've seen it be a big deal to et the 1.83 over the 2.0 is if you're going to be watching 1080p video... and if you don't know what that is, don't worry, you don't need that functionality. If you're going to be keeping music on your machine I would definitely reccomend a bigger hard drive... and you should ALWAYS get at least a gig of RAM. Always.
