Hi All,
I have just received PB back from repair (not Apple) and to my surprise the hard disk has been wiped and there is a fresh install of Mac OS X.
I am not too bothered as I did take a backup prior to sending it off (I just felt this might happen). However now I realise I am not really sure how I go about restoring it.
I took the backup up Carbon Copy Cloner and cloned it to a disk image which I put on my desktop.
Can anyone help me out and let me know of a simple way of restoring? Do I need to restore using CCC? I have also read about the restore function in Disk utility but can I just select the destination as being the new drive in the PB - even though I am running disk utility on the same drive.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Also I know its not strictly a Powerbook problem but this forum has been so helpful in the past I thought I would chance it.
Finally thanks for any assistance offered.

I'm no expert on CCC. I use Super Duper instead. However I would guess that there are some sort of restore instructions in the CCC documentation. Typically with backup software you would reload the backup program on the new drive, navigate to the restore portion of the software, tell it to do a restore, point it to where the backup is, and then wait for it to complete the copying of all the files from the backup to the new drive. Once done, usually a restart is required and then you are back in business. I would assume that CCC works similarly. Hope that helps but again I know pretty much nothing about CCC.
Good luck.

If your backup is on external drive, run Migration assistant and import user everything to new fresh OS!

I'll second this opinion.
Boot from the Mac OS X install DVD, whipe the internal HDD and install a fresh OS X (don't forget to deselect any unncessary languages or demos to save HD space). When the installer asks if you want to transfer old data, chose yes, and attach your backup drive. Transfer your old user account, settings, apps, etc. Reboot, check permissions and you'll be just where you were before the repair. Good luck.
