Hey Yall
Im quite new to this... but am hoping that there is someone out there that is able to help me find a really good deal for an ibook... I really want to do stuff with music mainly... I have no experience with Apple thus far... But i have heard sooo many good stuff about it and what apple can do... I am a musician wanting to do recordings and all on a laptop... I will be in Singapore & Malaysia between September 20th to the 27th...
Is there anybody out there that can hook the brother up with details....

I am not very sure about ibook, but I do know that they (Singapore, I don't know about Malaysia) are having some kind of promotion right now. Apple Store Online is selling MacBook Pro 15" 2.16GHZ 1GB RAM @ S$4288, some shop here is selling the same spec for $4088 plus another 1GB RAM. There are some selling @ S$4288, but if you top another S$188 (or maybe S$198 I can't remember...) you get another 1GB RAM, M$ Office (not very sure which edition), sling bag (don't know what brand) and one mouse (again, not sure what brand). You can check out yourself when you in Singapore, go to Sim Lim Square and search a bit, you will be able to find them.
BUT!!! I believe all these promotion will no longer vaild by the time (September) you reach Singapore.

I would recommend buying only from the Apple Store at Wheelock, or from an Authorized Reseller at The Funan Mall. Do not visit Sim Lim for a new laptop. However, all deals will be over by September. They were having great promotions from May-July, in line with the Singapore Sale. That's over now though. Also, it's more expensive to buy in Singapore than in the States, coz of the exchange rate that Apple has used, also you need to pay 5% GST, there's no way around that.
However if you're a tourist, you can get the 5% refunded at the airport. If that's the case, do not forget to take the rebate coupon from the reseller!

By September, most of the back-to-school promotions wld be over since Unis/ Polys start in late August.
Also, yeah, as phoenixash has said, it's actually a little bit more expensive over here (I'm a Singaporean). I went to London for hols, and the Macbook Pro at Harrods was $20 cheaper by default, not factoring student discounts and other offerings.
I would recommend buying at the iLife shop at Orchard Cineleisure. The @Orchard Center (they've changed their names) has really bad service, especially when it's crowded whilst the iLife shop has always given me good service and infact, regularly goes beyond for me. My fren ordered a Macbook from iLife, went with him and told him what to check for, he found a dead pixel and they instantly changed the laptop for him, no questions asked.
