i shut down my Powerbook everynight. For pro-audio use, I set prefs to "never' for putting the computer and hard disks to sleep.

1) i'm concerned that certain housekeeping is not happening by shutting down nightly

2) if you don't shut down, do you have to change your preferences back and forth when using the laptop?

3) and do you still leave your external hard drive on, or do you eject that? (i can't imagine leaving it on: the noise, the heat)

4) i tried closing the lid recently, and kept my prefs set to NEVER for Sleep. the pulsating light gave me the weirdest dream and i don't like it.

what do you do?

1) if you have tiger, the cron jobs are done the next time the computer is on. previous versions of X don't do this.

2) Dunno

3) N/A

4) er, not a question?

hmmm...

i do 'pro audio' with my pb, and three firewire drives.
i eject the drives, and shut them off, (after, of course, letting them spin down), every night.
i rarely shut off the pb itself, except when i travel (or am away from the pb for a week).
no real need to powerdown the 'book every night (but u can if u want to)

personally, i like the pulsing light...
