Yeah I know that every one is ramping up for the Core2Duo introduction, but I would like to look into mid next year. If I understand correctly Meron will be limited to a 667 FSB but its L2 is increased to 4MB. Conroe will be a desktop version of Meron without the powersaving features and its FSB should be at 1066MHz. Both are available this week.

I understand that early next year meron will be updated to a 1066 Mhz FSB (1333?) does this mean that the performance I see in a Conroe today is what I'm going to see in a Meron of next year?

Merom will never be updated to 1066mhz FSB, nor 1333 FSB, but 800 mhz!
Given the fact, that the variable versions of the Core 2 duo family only differ in the FSB, the Merom's performance will be quite similar to that of the Conroes...it will never catch up with it though, but still it gets close! In order to make a Cpu consume less power, it needs to be "downgraded"!
