If i replace the 10gb in my 500mhz ibook with a 30gb does the 30gb have to be pre formatted or can i pop it in the ibook and pop in the Mac OS disk and format/install straight from there?

Thanks,Matt

No need to "prep" the disk in any way. The OS installer will take care of all that for you. I'm not sure, but you may be required to run Disk Utility from the installer CD/DVD, but beyond that it's a simple matter of putting it in and installing.
