I did a search, but could not find the post which contained this info.

Does anyone recall a web site URL which was passes around? You entered in your MB serial # and it spat out which factory made it / what week etc. Someone posted that and I tried it.

I feel a bit like a dufus for asking this, but does anyone think this represents any sort of security risk? Tried thinking about what a hacker could do with this info...other than buy bogus Applecare, or some other scam on Apple, I cannot think of anything, unless thre is a way to raed your serial number while you are on line and id you???....

Thanks...so the question is...does anyone really feel entering your serial # in this site is a security risk?

I think I can pretty much convince myself of that....But I feel like a dufus for not simply using the tips on macnn to figure it out myself. It seeems these days that any unique bit of info - which links a person to something, is a threat to privacy....but then as Scott McNealy once said, "There is no privacy on the internet - get over it"

Guess I was not thinking.
