When the heat issue came up about the Macbook Pros I tested the ones at my local Apple store and they were very hot. This past weekend I paid another visit and noticed that they are running cooler, esp the undersides.
Time frame was about 3pm in the afternoon on both visits to make sure the machine were on long enough.
Due to the store noise was unable to test the whine
